Dublin

This next trip was just me and Char! What a treat! It was for my birthday innit. A spa trip, in Dublin. I’d never been before, to a spa or Dublin! Oh this is bit of a lie. I did accidentally go to a naked spa in Germany once, but that’s probably left for another blog. I say once, we did enjoy it so went again a few days later. We were tricked into it the first time mind!

It was nice to get away just the two of us. We left well early from Liverpool, and stayed in a place just south of Dublin called Dun Laoghaire, in The Royal Marine Hotel. Nothing to do with the ‘99.9% need not apply’ blokes, I don’t think anyway. Didn’t see any of them there. When we arrived, we went straight to the spa which Char had already booked. I say it was my treat, but Char had wanted to do it and used my birthday as an excuse! Got our robes on and that, and went to sit in some hot rooms and that. I then had my treatment thing – a Dermalogica facial. I fell asleep! Twice! I’d never fallen asleep whilst having my face rubbed before, so that was nice. I felt a bit bad because I hadn’t shaved, so it must have been horrible for her!

Went to the room after all of the face rubbing and just slept! Weird not having kids, plus I was well jet-lagged. Next day we got a train to Dublin. In the train station, it took ages for the train to arrive, and we saw a weird brown blackbird, if that’s even a thing? Had a look round Dublin. Saw the Temple Bar. Nothing special. Was just a pub. I saw a receipt for a round of drinks on Twitter, and it was a joke! Like £8 for a J2O and a pack of Quavers or summat. That’s my normal order by the way. You try to keep up with me on a night out, you’ll regret it! Went to Tower Records, which is a record shop that sells records. I bought some Fight Like Apes stuff from them a few times. They’ve split up now. Proper gutted! Only saw them a couple of times live, but really, really good. Have a look at them on YouTube.

Temple Bar. Just a pub.

We did some nice walking around a St Stephen’s Green which was nice, and we saw a wedding going on! We followed the bride for a bit, and then saw a bit of the ceremony thing in a bandstand. I think the bride was Romanian and the groom was Turkish. There were no subtitles, just a hunch. There was also a big service going on to commemorate 100 years since the Easter Rising, which was the Irish republicans start to end British rule in Ireland.

Goofy!

Another night in the hotel, and then flew home the next day. Hen parties galore on the plane back! When we landed, it was proper windy. People were praying and stuff. The plane started landing and then did a massive mid-air takeoff again to have another go at it. It was like Megaphobia in Oakwood Theme Park!

Conclusion

Dublin was alright. Wasn’t amazing. I’m sure there are loads more we could have done, but we enjoyed. We’re not big drinkers or anything, Char doesn’t drink at all, so probably missed some of the ‘culture’ of Dublin. Would happily go back and have another look round though!

A street in Dublin. Must have been a reason why I took this?

  1. £8 for a J20 and Quavers?! Wonder how long the person made those Quavers last.
